also live in Geneve. I went shopping today to get chocolate for my friends and relatives in California. And between the shopping centre and the tram home, I overheard three different groups of Vietnamese people. It still gives me a bit of a shock to hear Vietnamese around here and a little strange to then hear them swap to French as oppose to English, but people here must find it strange that I speak English with an Australian accent. I hope they didn't think it was strange that I was listening on their conversations. I wonder if they thought I could understand them.
Anyway, it was nice to hear the language again, I know it's weird because I can't speak it very well myself, but the culture is part of who I am. I can't pinpoint exactly what it is that I identify with, but right now I really miss the food. I want my bowl of pho for five dollars at uni. I want a rice cooker as I've found out how hard it is to cook rice on a stove, but am still not too sure whether I should buy a dodgy looking European noname one which I saw for thirty-five francs today. I want the ten dollar bowl of vermicelli and spring rolls. Mmmm... I have to stop thinking about food... and learn how to cook all this stuff myself... Or maybe I should try and befriend the next set of people, though they might think it's a little strange...
